In Abuja Pastor Who Stole Church’s Generator, Gas Cylinder & Fan Remanded In Prison

A Grade I Area Court, Karmo area of Abuja, today, ordered the remand of a 27-year-old Pastor, Emmanuel Ukaegbu, in prison arraigned for criminal breach of trust and cheating. The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, gave the order after Ukaegbu of Abia State, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge leveled against him. Maiwada adjourned the case until June 25, for sentencing. The prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, told the court that one pastor Samuel Oguche, on behalf of the general overseer of Omega Power Ministry Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwagwa Police Station Abuja, on June 2. Ukagha said the complainant alleged that sometimes in February 2018, the church entrusted Ukaegbu with electronic and household equipment meant for the Church, which he diverted. Ukagha said that Ukaegbu made away with tiger generator valued N15, 000, key board valued N70, 000, gas cylinder valued N6, 000 and a standing fan value yet unknown. In a Facebook post that had since gone viral, a man identified as Goodluck praised his wife after she saved him from embarrassment. According to the happy man, his landlord came barging into his apartment and demanded he paid the house rent which expired last month. To his greatest surprise, his wife gave him the sum of N147, 400 which she had been saving in a local piggy bank which he used to pay the house rent. In the gratitude post on Facebook, Goodluck wrote: “My wife surprised me today. Controversial media personality, Daddy Freeze has taken a swipe at Leke, son of the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye over his statement calling Nigerians to return to the farms. Leke Adeboye had in a video on his Instagram page asked Nigerians to focus on farming and employ trade and barter system in order to survive the harsh realities of the economy. Daddy Freeze in reaction supported Leke’s statement. He, however, urged him to begin by asking Pastor Adeboye to implement the barter system by exchanging tithe and offerings with cassava. Nigerians have said that President Muhammadu Buhari should not have signed the 2018 budget, which he did amidst claims that the National Assembly “tampered” with the document. Buhari had lamented that the 2018 Appropriation Act, which he signed into law on Wednesday, would be difficult — if not impossible — to implement because of the alterations members of the National Assembly had effected on the document he submitted to them on November 7, 2017. He accused the federal lawmakers of, among others, increasing the National Assembly budget by N14.5bn from N125bn to N139.5bn without any discussion with the Executive. He also accused them of injecting 6,403 projects of their own totaling N578bn into the national budget, while making cuts amounting to N347bn in the allocations to 4,700 projects as submitted to them. Projects from which cuts were made include the Mambilla Power Plant, Second Niger Bridge/ancillary roads, the East-West Road, Bonny-Bodo Road, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Anambra State police commissioner, Mr Garba Umar has revealed that a gun battle between two rival cult groups in Awka, the state capital, has claimed 16 lives in two weeks. Umar stated this Tuesday, while parading 35 suspected cultists at the state police command, Amawbia, near Awka. He raised alarm over the increase in cult-related activities in Awka, stating that he fears that a confession by one of the suspects that over 90 per cent of youths in Awka, including students, artisans and others, were cultists, may not be far from the truth. The commissioner called on parents to perform their function by taming their children as the command may commence charging those arrested to court for murder. 19 Year-Old Sells Younger Brother For N20,000 To Pay Bride Price

The police in Niger State have arrested 19-year-old Aliyu Basala Mohammed Yakutchi, for selling his six-year-old younger brother at Nagenu village in Katcha Local Government Area to one Legbo from Afuwagi village in Mokwa Local Government of the state for ritual purpose. Bisala, who is being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID), said he took his younger brother, Yamusa Ibrahim Yakutchi to Legbo, a notorious criminal and ritualist on credit and hopes to use the money to pay his 14-year-old bride to be price. The suspect, who claimed to be the third in a family of six while speaking at SCIID, said Legbo, who is now on the run with the victim was expected to pay him the N20,000 after completion of the ritual. The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) has told the governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, not to transfer mismanagement of his relationship with his people on the party’s national leadership. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the governor of being malicious. “With due respect, Governor Okorocha is being malicious and unfair to the NWC. If he has mismanaged his relationship with his own people, in a way that they now constitute an encumberance to him, he should not transfer his frustration to the NWC. “It is certainly not right to set fire to the village because you want to kill a rat. If Governor Okorocha has any specific grievances, he should come forward with them rather than making this generalised accusations,” Abdullahi said.

The Shiite group has resumed its protest against the continued detention of their Islamic Movement in Nigeria leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. One person was reportedly shot dead by security operatives during the protest. The protesting group have paralysed activities at the Federal Secretariat complex, Abuja, a few metres from the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa. According to report, the protesters who were armed with stones, chased away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin on the road. They also reportedly injured the Federal Secretariat Divisional Police Crime officer in the face after he asked them to stop harassing motorists.

24 People Die In Delta Fire Outbreak, Property Worth N13.2bn Lost

No fewer than 24 people died while 176 others were rescued in a fire outbreak which occurred in Delta between May 2015 and April 2018. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state Commissioner in charge of Directorate of the Bureau for Special Duties, Mr Ernest Ogwezzy, disclosed this in Asaba on Monday at an annual news conference of the bureau. According to him, property worth N13.2 billion was also lost to fire outbreaks while the Delta Fire Service saved property worth N8.3 billion during the period. The Commissioner highlighted some of the notable incidents to include that of Anioma Petrol Station, Okpanam Road, Asaba and the one that occurred at the College of Education Cooperative Filling Station, Warri. “Others are the fire at Beta Glass factory in Ughelli and the one at the Sapele Main Market which occurred on Oct. 13, 2017. “the fire statistics also showed that the state fire service attended to794 fire calls, out of which 63 were false calls,” Ogwezzy
